Welcoming Parish and Community Lunches
There has been a tradition over many years of catering and sharing food in our parish. Before the hall extension was built, the small meeting room served as a welcoming space for parishioners, and was used to its full potential. Under the skilful auspices of the late Helen Bidmead and latterly Beth Cheyne, much has been celebrated with good food and occasional wine – parish and family celebrations, quiz nights, musical evening and soirees, afternoon teas, Burns Suppers, as well as refreshments after Mass and Lent Lunches
Following on from lockdown with the help of volunteers we opened the hall to the community to join with us in a warm place, for some good food, great conversation and company. These lunches now continue on the first Thursday of the month from 12 noon, serving seasonal treats, hearty soups in the winter and varied salads when the weather gets really warm. There are always home baked cakes and or pudds and a bottomless tea and coffee pot, giving everyone time to chat. All donations are shared between local charities and church funds. During Lent funds are directed for people seeking aid from conflict, currently through CAFOD and GARAS
